Justus started competing in triathlon in 2002. As a junior, he joined the German national team and raced more than 12 years for them over the short distance before he switched to middle distance.
His biggest struggle over the longer distances was to handle an adequate amount of carbohydrates per hour to sustain performance. With the Precision Fuel Flow Gel he is now able to fuel properly.
Beside the triathlon, Justus studied Sports Science and finished with a masters degree.
