Lucie Hanes

Elite ultrarunner and climber

Lucie is a dual-sport athlete in the ultrarunning and rock climbing disciplines. She has won multiple races from 50-100k, and took 2nd place in her first crack at the 100-mile distance at the iconic 2023 Leadville 100. In sport climbing, she has 'sent' up to 5.14a.

Lucie lives with her partner and extraordinarily vocal cat in the Western Slope of Colorado, where she trains on desert trails in McGinnis Canyon and climbs in Rifle Mountain Park. She joined the PF&H Team after meeting the whole gang down in Kona while covering the 2023 IRONMAN® World Championships as a journalist. She learned there that she is an extremely salty sweater, and saw huge performance benefits after shifting to PH 1500 for her electrolyte needs! So began her fascination with all things PF&H. Lucie's favourite fueling products include the PF 30 Caffeine Gels and the PF 30 Mint & Lemon Chews.

When she's not running, climbing, sleeping, or eating, Lucie works as an outdoor industry journalist and a sports psychology consultant through her business, Inside Out Athlete, where she helps outdoor athletes navigate the stressors and mental aspects of sport. She holds her Masters in Applied Sports Psychology.

As someone with a history of RED-S and food-related OCD, I've had trouble finding fuel that sits well. PF&H feels comfortable across while providing me with more nutritional benefit than anything else I've tried.

Lucie's Top Tips

  • Fuel at specific intervals rather than relying on hunger cues to avoid getting into an energy deficit you can't crawl out of
  • Practice concentration strategies to control mental and physical energy throughout long efforts
  • Manage stress outside of training to maintain sustainable hormone levels for health and performance
